Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS), combining molecular mass analysis and spatial information determination, directly analyzes intact chemical species in situ from the surface they are bound to or the matrix they are embedded in, and provides visualization of molecular distribution on complex surfaces. The ability of tandem imaging mass spectrometry approaches to also simultaneously identify the chemical structure of an analyte is particularly attractive. As such, imaging MS/MS methods have been successfully employed on several trap-based instrument platforms, including quadrupole-TOF (Q-TOF), 12 linear ion trap (LIT), and LIT-orbitrap

1 January Image Processing Software For Imaging Spectrometry. Alan S. Mazer, Miki Martin, Meemong Lee, Jerry E. Solomon. Author Affiliations + (June 12 ) Automatic recognition of abnormal cells in cytological tests using multispectral Proceedings of SPIE (March 09 ). mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), intact tissue sections are analysed. Thus, this technology can be used to spatially resolve the distribution of endogenous (small metabolites, lipids, peptides and proteins) and exogenous (drugs and drug metabolites) species in tissue sections.

Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a mass spectrometry technique to visualize the spatial distribution of molecules, as biomarkers, metabolites, peptides or proteins by their molecular masses. Despite the fact that MSI has been generally considered a qualitative method, the signal generated by this technique is proportional to the relative.   Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) provides untargeted molecular information with the highest specificity and spatial resolution for investigating biological tissues at the hundreds to tens of microns scale. When performed under ambient conditions, sample pre-treatment becomes unnecessary, thus simplifying the protocol while maintaining the high.

From the reviews: “The book aims to provide comprehensive background information on mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) technology.

a monograph that has the merit of summarizing many protocols of great value for all scientists, engineers, and clinicians who. Journals & Books; Help Over the last five years, mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) has made it possible to extract spatially relevant information from numerous types of sample mediums including biofilms, biota, and environmental solids.

Newer approaches to MSI including desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (MS) and laser. The book features an unparalleled collection of color figures showcasing the quality and variety of chemical data that can be obtained from today’s instruments, as well as key pitfalls to avoid.

As with the previous TEM text, each chapter contains two sets of questions, one for self assessment and a second more suitable for homework assignments. Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS), based on linking mass-analysis data for ions and their original positions in a sample, allows the visualization of the spatial distribution of atomic and/or molecular species in the sample, and is therefore an essential analytical method for the characterization of chemical and biological materials.
